Empowering Teachers Through STEM Education
Lead teachers from four schools in Mae Chaem District, Chiang Mai Province, met to plan a professional development workshop for early-career teachers. The meeting focused on sharing teaching experiences and strengthening teachers’ knowledge and understanding of water conservation education through the integration of STEM Education and Active Learning approaches.
The primary objective is to enhance teachers’ capacity to design and deliver effective learning experiences that help students develop knowledge, understanding, and awareness of responsible water use. The program also seeks to foster environmental stewardship by encouraging students to appreciate the importance of conserving water resources and the environment, apply their learning in everyday life, and extend these practices to their families and communities.
During the meeting, participants agreed to use the existing “Water Conservation School” lesson package as the foundation for the program. They also proposed revising and enhancing the learning materials to better reflect the local context by incorporating community knowledge and local wisdom related to forest conservation and watershed protection into classroom activities.
This contextualized approach will enable students to learn from authentic, real-life situations while connecting concepts in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) with local livelihoods and natural resources. It is expected to cultivate a lasting awareness of natural resource conservation and promote sustainable environmental stewardship. The revised curriculum is scheduled to be implemented during the current academic semester.
